Critical Issue:

A growing pay day loan company reached a critical time.  The current system was too hard to change and manage to grow as fast as the company forecasted growth.  A new transactional system for the then 200 location operation was approved.

Services Provided: 

Comdyn was a trusted IT solution partner chosen to see the company through its tremendous growth period and beyond. A suite of integrated custom applications were created to allow the company to grow its business and meet the fasted paced change environment for mixed software locations.  Each location was its own island and not depending on any connections to other systems to continue to operate.  Each location used SQL Server Replication on a schedule to merge data into the corporate data warehouse.  The company has grown to over 1300 locations nationwide.

Applications Provided:

  • Loan Origination System: This system was the flagship of the entire system.  It was a product that was installed in every location.  The application handled document creation, business rule enforcement, integration with real time credit scoring, integration with corporate fraud systems.  Each state they operate in has unique guidelines that can be set by administrators without programming changes.  The system connected back to corporate via vpn originally to replicate data to the warehouse and now each store is connected through a private network.
  • General Ledger Interface: The interface to the GL is complex ETL designed using DTS and T-SQL.  Data is aggregated by state, transformed and loaded into Dynamics.
  • Support Application: A web application to update data at the stores and troubleshoot customer issues. This application was used to manage business rules, access and basic application support issues.
  • Accounting Application: A basic report, read-only application created so accounting could look up and review any out of balance data.  Used for troubleshooting GL issues.
  • OFAC Integration: This application uses ETL to pull data from the warehouse and compare new customers with the entire terrorist list and then compare all customers with additions or changes to the list.  This is a service that runs without user intervention and then emails any hits to legal for proper processing.
  • Online Loan Application: The online system began with a mandate to have online support for the system within 30 days.  The design was a simple application used to gather customer data and then that data was fed into the Internal Online Loan Application.  After meeting the 30 day mandate, we spent time to evolve the system into a full online loan origination application with custom document creation, document management, business rule enforcement and account maintenance.  The application integrated with the internal application through scheduled DTS jobs.
  • Internal Online Loan Application:  This was software for the online business unit to process loans.  It was similar to the loan origination but the users of this application handled loans in all states the customer had operations.
  • Online Loan Integration:  The internal online loan integration pushed data into the warehouse and GL using scheduled DTS jobs.
  • ACH Integration: To facilitate changes in their business, our application used EDI and EAI to send daily business to a third party ACH clearing house.
  • ASP Conversion: The core system was built using ASP and VB script.  In 2008, we began a massive conversion of all business logic to testable web services.  The business will see the same ASP UI, but with new automated testing tools we will save the corporation much time and money over the years.

Results:

This system was installed into the first store within a year.  After 6 months of testing and planning the complete rollout began. Today the software is running 1300 locations in 38 states and an online loan company and has many points of integration with other internal and external applications.  Through automated deployment, the client is able to release emergency changes within 24 hours in many cases to all stores.  The company faces tremendous legislative change in many states and having software that is easy to maintain has proven to be a huge competitive advantage.
