Home Builder had no single system for collecting and processing warranty information. Offices and warranty workers are distributed around the country. The existing backend for corporate data is JD Edwards. User were utilizing excel to track data and central updates were manual.
Client told us, “We need to tie all these distributed workers together, put all the data in one place, support warranty processing with a smart web interface, and finally send information via XML to JD Edwards.” Due to some slightly complicated workflow, they wanted an easy to use interface that walked users through process. Also, they requested that the site be content driven so it can be administered by business users rather than web masters.

We created a SQL database for warranty data and a .Net intranet application as the interface (ASP.Net). Custom controls were created for reusable functionality such as navigation. The system guides users through the process of entering a hierarchy of warranty data. Existing data from spreadsheets and satellite databases was imported and the system was deployed across the client’s wide area network, thanks to the easily distributed web interface. XML Links were established to JD Edwards to import and export Purchase Order data.
Client is up and running on their new Warranty intranet app and the users are happy. One database, a clean web interface, and hooks into JD Edwards and the upcoming.Net website, all makes for happier customers and a more efficient business operation.
